Membership

Membership Questions:

Q:   I thought Lions was just for men?
A: Lions is a service organization open to all persons over age 18 regardless of gender, race, national origin, etc.  We are an international organization with approximately 1.4 million members in 260 countries.

Q:  What's the best way to know if Lions Club is the right fit for you?
A:  Because Lions is a Service organization, we would recommend that you look at our calendar and find a Lions-Sponsored event.  (See Calendar)  Can't find one?  Contact our club president Don Leas at dragonwoods@earthlink.net for information on what might work for you.

Q: Do I have to attend meetings?
A: No, meeting attendance is entirely optional.  However, we encourage attendance to get to know the other members and learn more about Lions activities. Our meetings are held on the 3rd Wednesday every month at 7:00 PM (See Calendar). The menu is available on the Kalypso website and you order what you like:
Kalypso's Sports Tavern
Lake Anne Village Center
1617 Washington Plz, Reston, VA 20190
In addition to fellowship and organization of Lion activities, a speaker presents a program of interest to members.  You are permitted to attend the meeting without purchasing a meal.

Q:  I can't make the normal 3rd Wednesday Meeting but want meet with other area Lions.  Are there other days and places?
A:  Our Lions Club currently has a "Branch" that meets at the Finnegan's Irish Pub, Herndon, VA, informally on Second Monday of the month.  Contact Anne Ryan aer64@cox.net for information.

Q:  Do I have to join Lions Club if I attend a meeting?
A:  Membership is not required to attend a meeting.  We encourage our potential members to feel comfortable with the group before committing to become a member.

Q: How much does Lions cost?
A: Dues are $80 annually. Payment can be made all at once or $20.00 every three months.  All club dues are paid by the members.  These funds are used for the club administrative costs, International and State dues.  100% of funds raised from the public are used for charitable purposes; no funds are used for club administration costs.

Q: I’m really busy right now, will I be required to participate in all events?
A: No. Our members are diverse and have widely varying degrees of work and home responsibilities that change over time.  Some choose to support Lions financially; others enjoy fundraising and service projects while others are active in the administration of club programs.

Q: What opportunities for leadership and change are available?
A:  Our group is growing new members all the time.  Many opportunities for leadership are available and we welcome new ideas.  We will never turn down a good idea to spread the work of Lions in the community.
