Reston Lions Aids Local Scout's Eagle Project to Benefit Shelter

Alec Powell led Oak Hill Boy Scout Troop 20 in three construction efforts to benefit the Artemis House for victims of domestic violence and the Katherine Hanley homeless shelter, last fall as part of his Eagle Scout project.  Both sites are located in Fairfax County.  Funds and materials were donated in part by Reston Lions Club, Duron Paint, The King's Chapel, and Lowe's...
At Artemis House, the scouts replaced cracked food pantry shelves with new shelves cut to fit, painted and lined by Troop 20 volunteers. The scouts also built new storage shelves in two closets.
At the Hanley homeless shelter, the scouts built two large outdoor storage boxes for playground toys by cutting and screwing together pressure treated lumber and cutting and painting and attaching plywood covers.
Alec, now 18 years old, lives with his family in Oakton, Virginia.  He is a senior at Thomas Jefferson high school.
